At Friends of Aine, we want to create a world where no child grieves alone. Our volunteers work towards this mission by facilitating peer-to-peer, activity-based support groups. These services are open to grieving children, and teens, ages 4-18, and their adult caregivers. Our goal is to create a safe space for our grieving population to share their own personal experiences, explore topics related to grief, and learn coping strategies.
Facilitators work together within the same room in groups of two. Each volunteer is prepared well in advance by our Volunteer Coordinator and Program Coordinator, who develops the curriculum for each 8-week series. Volunteers do not need to have a specific background in any particular field. Groups meet once per week for 8 weeks, for 3 Series per year. The total time commitment is 24 evenings. Volunteers will be trained during a scheduled Orientation Training. The onboarding process requires individuals to submit a volunteer application, two references, attend an in-person interview and tour of the Center, and attend the Orientation Training.
