Plate Waste Audit: Reducing Food Waste at HoCo

Expired

Description

Join one of the Sustainability Institute's Zero Waste: Food Waste Interns in conducting a Plate Waste Audit in HoCo from March 25 to April 18! **Shifts are only 45 mins but you can do the whole hour and a half if you want.**

This initiative aims to raise awareness about food waste and gather data to help reduce it. Volunteers will assist by scraping food waste into a designated bucket during peak meal times, which will be weighed at the end of each shift. Participants will also take a quick, 1-question "select-all-that-apply" survey to help identify reasons for food waste, such as:

- Took too much food/Full before finishing

- Had to leave for class/Not enough time to finish

- Poor food quality

- Poor texture or temperature

Weekly results showing pounds of food wasted and the main reasons for waste will be shared on the HoCo dish return monitor, the UNH Sustainability Instagram, and with HoCo dining staff.

Help us reduce food waste and make a positive impact on sustainability at HoCo!
